Safety Distance Standards for Cable Trays

The recommended minimum horizontal distance between two parallel cable trays is 0. 6 meters, with vertical spacing of at least 150 millimeters to ensure safety, maintenance access, and proper airflow.

Horizontal Spacing

When installing two cable trays in parallel at the same height, the minimum horizontal distance should be 0. 6 meters. This spacing allows for adequate maintenance access, inspection, and heat dissipation, while preventing cables from touching and reducing the risk of short circuits or interference.

For power and signal cable trays, a horizontal separation of at least 0. 5 meters is recommended to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI). If the trays are shielded, this distance can be reduced to 0.

3 meters.

Vertical Spacing

For floor-mounted or stacked cable trays, a minimum vertical clearance of 150 millimeters is advised. This ensures structural integrity, facilitates ventilation, and allows for future installation of additional trays or cables.

Spacing Near Other Systems

Ventilation ducts: Maintain at least 100 mm horizontally and 300 mm vertically between cable trays and ventilation systems to prevent airflow restriction and allow maintenance. Thermal pipelines: If the pipeline is insulated, maintain 500 mm; if uninsulated, maintain 1000 mm. Avoid placing trays directly above pipelines whenever possible.

Drainage systems: Ensure sufficient clearance to prevent moisture exposure and corrosion.

Additional Considerations

Ensure cable trays are supported according to manufacturer specifications, typically every 1. 5 to 3 meters for horizontal runs. Avoid overcrowding trays; maintain fill limits (power cables ≤ 40%, control cables ≤ 50%) to prevent overheating.

Use protective covers in outdoor or mechanically vulnerable locations, and secure cables with approved ties or clips. Maintaining these spacing guidelines ensures safe operation, reduces EMI, allows proper cooling, and facilitates maintenance, contributing to the long-term reliability of the cable tray system.
