How to install the hanger rod at the bend of the cable tray

Use threaded rods with trapeze or cantilever supports, pre-threaded nuts, and level struts to secure the cable tray at bends safely and maintain proper alignment.

Step-by-

Step Installation1. Plan and Mark the Bend Location Identify the exact location of the bend on the cable tray route. Use a chalk line or laser level to mark the path and support points, ensuring the bend aligns with the intended cable routing and avoids obstructions.

2. Prepare the Hanger Rods Threaded rods should be cut to the required length, taking care not to damage the threads. Pre-thread nuts on the rods to speed up installation.

You can use a drill with vise grips to spin the rod and position the nut efficiently. 3. Install Horizontal Supports Attach a Unistrut channel or cross member horizontally between two vertical hanger rods.

Slide square washers and thread nuts above and below the cross member to secure it. This creates a stable shelf for the cable tray at the bend. 4.

Position the Cable Tray Lift the tray section onto the horizontal support. For bends, ensure the tray is properly aligned with the bend radius to prevent cable pinching or scraping. Use splice plates if connecting multiple tray sections at the bend.

5. Secure the Tray Fasten the tray to the support using hold-down clips or bolts. Tighten nuts on the threaded rods to lock the tray in place.

Ensure the tray remains level and the bend is smooth to avoid stress on cables. 6. Grounding and Bonding Install a copper bonding jumper across splice plates if the plates are not rated for grounding continuity.

Connect the entire tray system to the building's main earth ground. 7. Verify Alignment and Load Support Check that the bend is properly supported and that the rods and struts can handle the total cable weight.

Adjust nuts and washers as needed to maintain level and prevent sagging.

Tips for Bends

Use shorter spacing between supports at bends (typically 1. 5 meters or less) to maintain rigidity. Avoid sharp bends that could pinch cables; follow manufacturer-recommended bend radii.

Consider using factory-precut rods and supports for complex bends to save time and ensure accuracy. By following these steps, the hanger rod at the bend will provide stable, level support, prevent cable damage, and comply with standard cable tray installation practices.
