Connect the router with Ethernet cable or fiber optic cable

You cannot connect a fiber optic cable directly to a standard router; the connection requires an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) to convert the optical signal into an Ethernet signal for your router.

Required Equipment

Optical Network Terminal (ONT): Provided by your ISP, this device converts the fiber optic light signal into an electrical signal compatible with routers. Fiber optic cable: Usually single-mode with SC/APC or SC/UPC connectors, supplied by your ISP. Router: Ensure it has a WAN or SFP port capable of receiving Ethernet input from the ONT.

Ethernet cable (Cat5e or higher): Connects the ONT to the router.

Step-by-

Step Connection

Install the ONT Locate the fiber optic wall outlet where the ISP's fiber line enters your home. Connect the fiber optic cable from the wall to the ONT's optical port. Power on the ONT and wait for the status lights to stabilize, indicating a successful connection to the ISP network.

Connect the ON

T to the Router Use an Ethernet cable to link the ONT's LAN/Ethernet port to the router's WAN port. This allows the router to receive the converted signal from the ONT.

Power On the Router After the ON

T is fully operational, plug in and power on your router. Wait for the router's indicator lights to confirm a successful internet connection. Verify the Connection Check your devices to ensure they can access the internet.

If the connection fails, confirm that all cables are securely connected, the ONT is powered, and the router is configured correctly.

Important Precautions

Handle fiber optic cables carefully; avoid bending them sharply or touching the glass connectors.

Place the ON

T and router in a dry, ventilated area near a power source. Always power on the ONT before the router to ensure proper network registration. Use high-quality Ethernet cables (Cat6a or higher) to maintain optimal speeds.

By following these steps, you can establish a stable, high-speed fiber optic internet connection through your router, leveraging the full performance benefits of fiber technology.
