ADSS 48-core optical cable specifications and models

48-core ADSS optical cables are all-dielectric, self-supporting aerial fiber optic cables designed for long-span outdoor installations, typically using single-mode fibers (G. 652D or G. 657A1) with loose tube construction and water-blocking features.

Key Specifications

Cable Structure: All-dielectric and self-supporting: No metallic components, safe for installation near high-voltage lines, capable of spanning 100–1000 meters between poles or towers. Loose tube design: Fibers are housed in gel-filled or dry tubes to protect against moisture and mechanical stress. Central strength member: Dielectric core provides tensile strength, often reinforced with aramid yarn for peripheral support.

Outer jacket: Polyethylene (PE) or track-resistant polyethylene (TRPE) for UV and environmental protection; some models offer double-jacket designs for long-span applications. Ripcords: Located under jacket layers for easy stripping during installation. Fiber Type and Count: 48 single-mode fibers per cable, typically G.

652D or G. 657A1, suitable for long-distance communication. Fibers are color-coded for easy identification and testing.

Performance and Testing: Optical testing: OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) used to verify splice loss, fiber integrity, and locate faults. Standards compliance: IEEE-P1 222 for aerial installation, TIA/EIA-455, IEC-60794-1, and Telcordia GR-20 for outside plant cables. Span and Installation Conditions: Short-span cables: Up to 600 ft in NESC light conditions, 500 ft in medium, and 300 ft in heavy conditions.

Long-span applications: Double-jacket or reinforced designs recommended for spans exceeding 450 ft under NESC light conditions. Suitable for outdoor aerial installation on poles, between buildings, or industrial structures; can also be used indoors in cable trays.

Available Models and Variants

Corning SOLO® ADSS 48-core: Short-span, single-jacket, loose tube design, TRPE jacket for up to 25 kV electric field potential. Zion Communication 48-core ADSS: Standard all-dielectric, self-supporting, loose tube with gel or dry filler, suitable for spans up to 1000 m.

JER

A Fiber 48-core ADSS: Designed for FTTX aerial lines, supports outdoor and indoor installations, tested with OTDR for quality assurance. BuyAWG ADSS-48: Features aramid yarn reinforcement, water-swelling tape, and optional double-jacket for long-span applications; supports 32–144 fiber variants in ADSC design. These cables are widely used by telecom operators, municipalities, and power utilities for rapid deployment along aerial rights-of-way, providing reliable, long-term performance in harsh outdoor environments.

Summary: 48-core ADSS cables combine high fiber density, self-supporting dielectric construction, loose tube protection, and water-blocking features, making them ideal for aerial fiber optic networks in both urban and industrial settings. Model selection depends on span length, environmental conditions, and installation requirements.
