SC Fiber Optic Connector Connection Method

To connect an SC fiber optic connector, insert the fiber into the connector using the push-pull latch mechanism, secure it with the boot and outer housing, and ensure the ferrule end face is clean.

Inspect the fiber for damage, avoiding kinks or bends ( ).

Insert Connector Components

Remove the connector boot and any riveting rings. Slide the boot onto the fiber before attaching the connector ( ).

Apply Glue

Inject UV-curable glue or epoxy into the connector ferrule. Insert the fiber into the ferrule until glue slightly overflows from the end face ( ).

Cleave the Fiber

Use a fiber cleaver to cut the fiber to the correct length, ensuring a smooth, flat end ( ).

Assemble the Connector

Push the fiber into the SC connector using the push-pull latch mechanism. Rotate the boot to secure it to the connector head. Press down the protruding ceramic ferrule end face using the dust cap.

Slide the outer housing over the connector, aligning any bump marks with the coupler ( ).

Cure the Glue

Use a UV lamp or curing oven to harden the glue if using UV-curable resin ( ).

Clean the End Face

Clean the ferrule end face with a lint-free wipe moistened with fiber optic cleaning solution or isopropyl alcohol. Clean the inside of the adapter using a cleaning stick or brush, rotating gently to remove residue ( ).

Test the Connection

Insert the SC connector into the adapter until you hear a click. Inspect for proper alignment and low insertion loss. Re-clean and reinsert if necessary ( ).

Tips and Precautions

Never connect two male or two female ends directly; this can damage the ferrule and cause high insertion loss ( ). Always handle fibers carefully to avoid breakage or contamination. Use a microscope to inspect the ferrule end face for scratches or debris before final installation ( ).

Ensure the fiber is not bent beyond its minimum bend radius to prevent signal loss ( ). Following these steps ensures a secure, low-loss SC fiber optic connection suitable for networking and telecommunications applications ( ).
