How to adjust a fiber optic sensor switch

Fiber optic sensor switches can be adjusted by setting the detection threshold, fine-tuning sensitivity, and configuring output modes using one-point or two-point teaching methods.

Basic Adjustment Steps

Power On and Initial Setup Ensure the sensor is properly connected and powered. Check that the fiber optic cable is correctly positioned for the target object or background.

One-

Point Teaching (Single Threshold)Place the sensor in the condition where the object is present (or absent for background reference).

Press the SE

T or Teach-in key for 2–3 seconds until the display indicates "Teach-in active" or similar. The sensor will automatically set the switching threshold based on the received light intensity. A successful teach-in is usually confirmed by a blinking indicator or display change.

Two-

Point Teaching (Optional for Fine Control)For more precise detection, perform two-point teaching: First, set the sensor with the object present. Second, set the sensor with the object absent (background). This allows the sensor to define both 0% and 100% reference points, improving accuracy in environments with variable lighting or reflective surfaces.

Fine Sensitivity Adjustment

Use the threshold fine adjustment function to slightly increase or decrease the detection level if the sensor is too sensitive or not detecting reliably. Some models allow adjusting sensitivity while the object is moving, which is useful for continuous line operations.

Output Mode Configuration

Switch between Light-ON (L-on) or Dark-ON (D-on) output modes using the MODE button or menu settings. Confirm the output type on the display before finalizing the setup.

Locking and Preset Functions

Many sensors allow key lock to prevent accidental changes. Preset functions can store reference values for quick recalibration or maintenance purposes.

Resetting to Factory Settings

If adjustments become complicated, reset the sensor to factory defaults: Enter configuration mode using the Mode key. Navigate to the Reset option and confirm. This clears all custom thresholds and sensitivity settings.

Tips for Reliable Operation

Clean the fiber tip regularly to prevent dust or dirt from reducing light intensity. Ensure the background or reflective surfaces are consistent if using reflective sensors. Confirm settings by testing detection with actual objects under normal operating conditions.

Always press SET or confirm changes before turning off the power to save adjustments. By following these steps, you can accurately adjust a fiber optic sensor switch for reliable object detection and consistent performance.
