Protection and Control Device Numbers and Functions
This publication contains new and updated information as indicated in the following table. The protection and control devices in electrical equipment can be referred to by numbers, with appropriate suffix
ANSI device numbers
A suffix letter or number may be used with the device number; for example, suffix N is used if the device is connected to a Neutral wire (example: 59N in a relay is used for protection against Neutral Displacement); and suffixes X, Y, Z are used for auxiliary devices. Similarly, the "G" suffix can denote a "ground", hence a "51G" is a time overcurrent ground relay. The "G" suffix can also mean "generator", hence an "87G" is a Generator Differential Protective Relay while an "87T" is a Transformer Differentia
Relay Symbols and Device Numbers Guide
The document discusses various relay symbols and device numbers used in protective relaying based on IEC 617 and ANSI/IEEE C37.2-1991 standards. It defines over 50 device functions ranging from
Protection Relay
In the design of electrical power systems, the ANSI Standard Device Numbers denote what features a protective device supports (such as a relay or circuit breaker). These types of
Table of ANSI IEEE Standard Device Numbers
This table details ANSI IEEE Standard Device Numbers as used for protective relaying in North America. Suffixes for numbers are also suggested.
ANSI Device Numbers for Relays | PDF | Relay | Switch
ANSI device numbers denote the functions of protective devices like relays and circuit breakers. These devices protect electrical systems from damage during unwanted events. Device numbers identify
Practical handbook-for-relay-protection-engineers | PDF
It covers standard codes, wiring practices, and norms for protecting generators, transformers, and lines, and provides detailed information on relay characteristics and crycuit design.
ANSI/IEEE Function Number Codes
Protective relay functions are typically represented in single-line electrical diagrams as circles, with the ANSI/IEEE number code specifying each function. This is analogous to ISA-standard loop diagrams
