Synchronous Optical Networking

Synchronous optical module

The basic unit of framing in SDH is a (Synchronous Transport Module, level 1), which operates at 155.520 (Mbit/s). SONET refers to this basic unit as an STS-3c (Synchronous Transport Signal 3, concatenated). When the STS-3c is carried over OC-3, it is often colloquially referred to as, but this is not an official designation within the SONET standard as there is no physical layer (i.e. opti.

Passive Optical Networking Wiring

A passive optical network consists of an optical line terminal (OLT) at the service provider's central office (hub), passive (non-power-consuming) optical splitters, and a number of optical network units (ONUs) or optical network terminals (ONTs), which are near end users. Passive Optical Network (PON) stands as a foundational technology in the evolution of modern telecommunications, serving as the cornerstone for high-speed fiber-optic networks. These optical LANs align space, energy, heat, noise, radiation, and cost with your real bandwidth requirements, and can be highly. A passive optical network (PON) or Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) is a point-to-multipoint (P2MP) network that uses a combination of active transmission equipments and passive cable components to provide network connectivity to end user's devices. Network designers and ISPs aiming for efficiency must focus on effective passive optical network design, with careful consideration of PON architecture planning and splitter placement.

What are Passive Optical Networking PON technologies

For TDM-PON, a passive optical splitter is used in the optical distribution network. In the upstream direction, each ONU (optical network units) or ONT (optical network terminal) burst transmits for an assigned time-slot (multiplexed in the time domain). In this way, the OLT is receiving signals from only one ONU or ONT at any point in time. In the downstream direction, the OLT (usually) continuously transmits (or may burst transmit). ONUs or ONTs see their own data through the address labels embe.
